McHenry determined that the vast majority of folklore concerning Angeline Tubbs was completely fabricated by author William L. Stone, Jr. as part of a serialized story printed in a local Saratoga Springs newspaper.
 
The well-known photograph of Tubbs at age 97 has been conclusively proven to be a dummy of Moll Pitcher from a commemorative postcard at Bunker Hill.
