Phaleg (alternately Phalec or Pharos) is an olympic spirit who rules over the planet Mars and 35 provinces.

Summoning sigil of Phaleg

According to the Arbatel of Magick (1575), Phaleg ruled over the earth from 430 - 920 AD.

"Phaleg" is also the name of a descendant of Noah, and a patriarch of Israel, but unrelated to the Olympic spirit.

Textual history

Phaleg is described as an olympic spirit in several grimoires collectively called the Grimoire of Armadel, although the spirit's name was, at some point, mistakenly written as "Phalet" in the French editions, this is the same spirit as Phaleg.

The 1750 manuscript Regis Salomonis calls this spirit by the name "AETHNITROS" and provides an alternate seal for it and the other olympic spirits.

Primary texts which describe Phaleg and the spirit's attributes include:

  • Arbatel of Magick (1575)
  • Regis Salomonis Septem Sigilla Planetarum (1750)
  • Magia Naturalis et Innaturalis (1849)

Abilities

In addition to being ruler over Mars, Phaleg fulfills the role of warlord.

The person who possesses his character will be elevated to great honor in military affairs.

Seal

The seal of Phaleg should be drawn in red and green ink.

The characters of his seal teach the mysteries of the creation of the world and give visions of "terrestrial paradise" or the Garden of Eden. His sigil also gives information about necromancy and divination through the dead.

In popular culture

"Megalith Phaleg" is the name of a super rare card in the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game. It depicts a spiny angel holding a sword and shield.
