Machidiel
Machidiel (also Malchidial and Malchidael) is the angel who rules over the zodiac sign of Aries. He is a diurnal angel of the East.
His name means "Help of God." The four letters of Yahweh are יהוה YHVH.
Characteristics
Machidiel's primary office is to teach the way to avoid sins and flee evils.
As an Archangel of the Zodiac, Machidiel also rules over the month of March and the head of human bodies. In the hierarchy of angels, he is in the Seraphim. His stone is sardius.
The Archdemon of the Zodiac under his control is Sarahiel, the demon queen of Aries.
Textual history
Machidiel is mentioned in many grimoires from the 1500s onward. His name first appears in print in Three Books of Occult Philosophy (1531), but must have come from an older, unidentified source. The Magical Calendar (1619) marks the earliest publication of his summoning seal. Theomagia (1663) gives an alternative symbol for the angel, places it under the rulership of Barzabel, and connects it to the geomantic figure Puer and, by extension, the 11th and 20th letters in the Alphabet of the Angels. Arsenal Manuscript 2495 (1600s) contains the earliest known explanation of the angel's abilities, although this text likely utilized an older source.
