Capricorn
Capricorn (♑︎) is the tenth astrological sign in the zodiac, originating from the constellation of Capricornus, the horned goat. It spans the 270–300th degree of the zodiac, corresponding to celestial longitude.
Dates
Under the tropical zodiac, the Sun transits this area from about December 22 to January 19 of the following year. Under the sidereal zodiac, the Sun transits the constellation of Capricorn from approximately January 16 to February 16.
Name
There appears to be a connection between traditional characterizations of Capricorn as a sea goat and the Sumerian god of wisdom and waters, Enki, who also had the head and upper body of a goat and the lower body and tail of a fish. Later known as Ea in Akkadian and Babylonian mythology, Enki was the god of intelligence (gestú, literally "ear"), creation, crafts; magic; water, seawater, and lakewater.
Characteristics
Capricorn represents time and responsibility. Those born under this sign are usually responsible and disciplined, exercising self-control and good manners. They tend to come across as knowing everything and may seem condescending.
Capricorns can be practical and grounded, sometimes to a fault.
Occult correspondences
In astrology, Capricorn is considered an earth sign, a negative sign, and one of the four cardinal signs. Capricorn is said to be ruled by the planet Saturn. Its colors are brown and black. The stone chalcedony is under the tail of Scorpio and Capricorn. Some sources have garnet as the stone of Capricorn.
The ruling Archangel of the Zodiac over Capricorn is Hanael.
