The angel Omael, a member of the dominions choir

The Dominions (lat. dominatio, plural dominationes, also translated from the Greek term kyriotētes as "Lordships") are the fourth rank of angels in the hierarchy of angels.

This choir is also known as "dominations" or "lordships" in some English translations of the De Coelesti Hierarchia. According to Meteorologica Cosmica by Robert Fludd, this choir is ruled over by the Archangel Zadkiel.

Function and appearance

Angels in the dominions choir regulate the duties of lower angels. It is only with extreme rarity that the angelic lords make themselves physically known to humans. When they do appear, they look like humans of perfect beauty with wings.

Textual basis

The dominions choir is mentioned in the Bible in Ephesians 1:20-21:

He raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

Angels in the choir

Nine Kabbalistic angels are members of the dominions choir.

Before the fall from Heaven, the Goetic demon Marchosias was an angel in the dominions.
