Who is Occultwiki
User Occultwiki is the creator of the Occult Encyclopedia.
My name is Travis McHenry: I'm an author, occultist, and Editor-in-Chief of the Occult Encyclopedia.
Why I Made This Wiki
I used to rely on Wikipedia for the sake of convenience whenever I needed to quickly reference simple facts about the 72 Kabbalistic angels. At one time, the Wikipedia article on the angels had an excellent table containing lots of details about the angels and their relationship with the Goetic demons.
One day, I went to the article page and the table had been deleted. Some moron decided that it was not relevant to the angels because they are "not real." At that point, I decided that it was up to me to become a preserver of esoteric information. So, I created the Occult Encyclopedia, not only for my own use, but for anyone who is interested in spirituality and esoteric subjects.
Managing the wiki consumes a fair amount of my time, but I tend to use the process of researching and writing articles as a form of escape. It's actually relaxing for me to create through this medium!
Fun facts
- This is the second wiki I've created out of disgust for the editors at Wikipedia. The first was Encyclopedia Westarctica.
- For three years, I worked as a recruiter for California Psychics, the largest telephone psychic company in the world.
- My second cousin (who I have never met) is one of the service's oldest and highest-paid psychics.
- While working there, I met my good friend Damian Kramer, who introduced me to Golden Dawn-style ritual magic.
- In 2013, I spent so much time meditating that I suffered from "meditation sickness" for several days.
- The first place I remember seeing a tarot card was in the credits sequence of The People Under the Stairs (1991).
- My interest in tarot was sparked by reading the young adult novel Eyes of the Tarot (1983) by Bruce Coville.
Personal beliefs
Many people are puzzled by my personal spiritual beliefs because I embrace every religious/spiritual tradition I come into contact with because I can find elements of truth in all of them. However, for my own practice, I pull out the parts which are truthful, beneficial, and elevating, while leaving the rest behind. For this reason, I do not ascribe to any single church or religion.
My primary spiritual practice involves elements of:
