The Echols Sigil Oracle deck and cards.

The Echols Sigil Oracle is a deck of 42 oracle cards created by occultists Damien Echols, Travis McHenry and Lorri Davis. It is somewhat unique because it exclusively utilizes sigils in its artwork and is specifically designed for use in ritual magic as well as divination.

Background

After attending a weekend seminar hosted by Damien Echols and his wife, Lorri Davis in Joshua Tree, California in September 2022, Travis McHenry became friends with Echols and they began corresponding regularly about magic and spirituality. When they met again in New Orleans later that year, they discussed collaborating on a project together and Travis suggested they create an oracle deck.

With Lorri's help, they planned out the structure of the deck, which sigils would be utilized, and how the cards themselves would work. Each agreed that the deck had to function as a multi-faceted tool that would be useful for the entire esoteric community, beyond a niche group of ritual magicians. Over the course of the following year, Lorri and Damien drew the sigils by hand while Travis digitally created the design for the cards. After the sigil artwork was completed, they were scanned with a high resolution scanner and modified from pencil sketches to two-tone white and red digital images suitable for commercial-grade printing.

Card layout

The overall design of the cards has a grunge aesthetic with ripped edges, tears, and scratches on the cards. These features are purely cosmetic and do not interfere with the important magical elements on the cards. Every card is unique with no two cards having exactly the same distress patterns. The sigils are made using the Rosicrucian method.

Each card contains four key elements:

  • Name of the sigil.
  • The sigil.
  • Runic text in the Theban alphabet.
  • Short text explaining the sigil's function.

Deck content

Two archangel cards from the Echols Sigil Oracle.

The Echols Sigil Oracle contains 42 cards, a number with ancient spiritual connotations, including veiled references to the 42 Assessors of Maat who judged the souls of the dead in the afterlife alongside Osiris in the Egyptian religion. This number is also found scattered throughout the Bible, especially in the Old Testament, where it appears in 12 different verses. In the New Testament, it appears twice in the Book of Revelation in reference to the Antichrist.

List of Sigils

Although the cards themselves are unnumbered, the order presented in the deck's guidebook is suggested as a pathway to healing and higher spirituality. If desired, a magic-worker can work with the sigils one at a time, progressing through the entire deck of 42 cards.
