Six of Wands from the Rider-Waite Tarot deck

The Six of Wands is the sixth card in the suit of Wands. It usually stands for a victor triumphing, bringing great news. Expectation crowned with its own desire.

General description

In the Rider-Waite Tarot deck, Pamela Coleman Smith depicts the Six of Wands as a laureled horseman bearing a staff adorned with a laurel crown; footmen with staves are at his side.

Divinatory meaning

The element of thought on the earthy house of Virgo must naturally bring forth knowledge of every detail and reveal mistakes or shortcomings; it promotes efficiency, and the latter is one of the principal meanings of the card. Here again is a double mercurial expression, so this card must denote special abilities, capacities, technical insight, and the practical arrangement of details.

It is also a card of messages. The man on horseback brings good news that will be shared by everyone present. The laurels represent peace, so the news may also signal the end of a conflict. The double Mercury of the Three of Wands suggests the news will come quickly.

If reversed, the card can mean: Apprehension and fear. Treachery and disloyalty. Indefinite delay.
